He is consistently ranked among the best and most influential US presidents, and historians studying his personal letters and communications have noticed a particular fondness for men in his writing, suggesting that he was gay or bi. Abe Lincoln was famously married to Mary Todd Lincoln, and had five children with her, but was also described as being ‘distant’ with women, and very warm toward men.
