The make believe world of Harry Potter started all kinds of real-world crazes, from Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Jelly Beans to actual quidditch groups competing across the country. Of all the real-world obsessions the books have brought us, the most bizarre has to be the ‘Snapwife’ phenomenon. Snapewives are women who believe that they are in relationships and often married to the fictional character in a book about witches and wizards Severus Snape through a phenomenon called ‘astral projection’. They have stories of dates and weddings–and wedding nights–spent with the brooding Potions teacher. It’s disturbing.
